The privileges of a Sport Pilot

What you can do and fly

Being a licensed Sport Pilot makes it legal for you to carry one passenger and fly anywhere in the US you choose (some restriction apply) as pilot in command of an authorized Sport Plane. Sport planes are single engine craft, have a gross weight of 1320 lbs and fly not faster than 138 mph.

As a Sport Pilot you have almost all of the freedoms of a Private Pilot, with the following expceptions:
• you will not carry more than one passenger
• not fly at night, or in clouds • must have view to the ground below
• must fly below 10,000 ft. above the ground
• may not tow anything behind your plane • may not fly for any kind of paid business activity (your passenger may pay you up to one-half of flying expense)

With training you can fly sea planes or planes with pontoons and planes with snow skies to get to those places others wish they could. You can land on dirt or grass runways in the outback to go camping, hunting and fishing. Yes, fly fishing!
